Verdict:

TRUE

A 17-year-old student was assaulted in front of a secondary school in Larkin, Johor Baru, after allegedly making obscene gestures towards a 13-year-old female schoolmate.

Johor Baru South district police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat confirmed that a police report has been lodged following the circulation of a video showing the assault.

"The victim, who is a student at the school, was assaulted during the incident. Checks found that he lodged a police report on Thursday (Jan 29) at about 7.13pm," he said on Friday (Jan 30).

ACP Raub said the suspects involved are also a 17-year-old student from the same school and his 20-year-old unemployed elder brother, who allegedly punched the victim.

He added that the incident occurred at around 2.30pm on Thursday, and both teenage boys are schoolmates.

"Initial investigations found that the incident stemmed from the victim allegedly making obscene gestures towards a 13-year-old female schoolmate, who is also the suspect's friend," he said.

The female student has since lodged a police report over the matter at around 5.43pm on the same day, he added.

ACP Raub said police would apply for a remand order to facilitate further investigations into both cases.

Investigations have been opened under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 509 of the same Act for insulting the modesty of a person, he said.

ACP Raub urged the public not to share the video on social media, warning that doing so could lead to misunderstandings and speculation that may disrupt public harmony.

Those with information related to the case are urged to contact the Johor Baru South police hotline at 07-218 2323 or lodge a report at the nearest police station.
