A QUIET moment in a parked car turned into a terrifying ordeal for a young couple in Bandar Jaya Putera.

A video from a car's dashboard camera showing a motorcycle being struck and crashing has gone viral on social media, capturing a dramatic chase that followed the incident.

But were a couple really mugged with a taser in Johor Baru?

Verdict:

TRUE

A teenage boy and his female companion became victims of armed robbery in Bandar Jaya Putera, Johor Baru, before chasing after the suspects in an incident that occurred in the early hours of Friday (Jan 16).

A video from a car's dashboard camera went viral earlier, showing a motorcycle being driven at high speed before being struck by a car and crashing.

South Johor Baru OCPD Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said the victim, an 18-year-old local man, lodged a police report at approximately 4.45am on the day of the incident.

"Based on the report, the incident occurred at approximately 3.30am when the victim, who works as a waiter, and his 19-year-old female companion were inside a car parked in a quiet area," he said in a statement on Sunday (Jan 18).

Two suspects riding a black motorcycle without a registration number approached the victims and demanded their identity cards whilst threatening them with an object resembling an electric shock device (taser), he said.

According to Raub, the suspects then fled with two iPhone mobile phones and a wallet containing personal documents and bank cards, with total losses estimated at RM7,000.

"The victim chased the suspects and the motorcycle ridden by the suspects crashed after the car driven by the victim hit them during an attempted U-turn, approximately two kilometres from the scene of the incident," he said.

However, both suspects managed to escape and efforts to track them down are being carried out actively, he added.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery in a group.
