Verdict:
TRUE
An e-hailing driver suffered facial injuries after being struck with a steering lock in an incident believed to have been caused by a misunderstanding whilst driving on Jalan Lingkaran Dalam, near the exit junction of a petrol station, in Johor Baru.
Johor Baru Selatan District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said a report on the incident, which also went viral, was received from a 38-year-old local man.
"Initial investigations found that the incident occurred when the suspect was dissatisfied with the victim's action of driving out from the petrol station recklessly, causing the suspect to brake suddenly," he said in a statement, adding that the incident occurred at around 2.21pm Saturday (Dec 27).
"The suspect then got out of his vehicle before proceeding to strike the victim's face using a steering lock," he said.
Raub said as a result of the incident, the complainant suffered injuries to the left side of his face.
Acting on information, police successfully detained a 35-year-old local man believed to be involved in the incident.
Police also seized a steering lock believed to have been used during the incident.
He added that a urine screening test on the suspect showed a negative result for drugs, whilst a check of past records found that the suspect has no criminal record.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing injury using a weapon.
A remand application for the suspect is expected to be made at the Johor Baru Magistrate's Court on Sunday (Dec 28).
