JOB scams take many forms these days, with some serving as a means for scammers to rake in personal data from victims.
Recently, a post making the rounds on social media claimed that Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) was hiring for various positions and inviting interested applicants to send their details via WhatsApp.
Is it true scammers are misusing TNB's name to gain personal data from victims?
VERDICT:

TRUE
In a statement posted to its official TNB CareLine Facebook page, TNB said it was aware of scammers misusing images of its management to offer fake jobs.
"Be careful and do not be deceived by any suspicious social media accounts, websites or links using TNB management pictures, with the purpose of deceiving recipients into revealing their personal information," the post read.
It added that TNB only advertises vacancies through its official platform at https://jobs.tnb.com.my.
TNB also urged those who came across such suspicious job advertisements to report it via:
- Private Message on the TNB CareLine official Facebook page;
- Direct Message to the official @Tenaga_Nasional account on X (formerly known as Twitter); or
- Email to CareLine@myTNB.my
