SOMETIMES, we just want a slice of cake after a nice meal for dessert. As we scroll through food delivery apps, some shops have good reviews, others have bad ones. And some shops are just downright suspicious.
Recently, the premises of a cake-selling business in Klang was raided for carrying out illegal activities. Is this true?
VERDICT:
TRUE
The Selangor Immigration Department busted the illegal passport-stamping operation when it raided a rented house in Taman Sri Andalas, Klang on Monday (Dec 15), Sinar Harian reports.
Its director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin told the Malay language daily that the syndicate had disguised itself as a cake business to fool the neighbours and authorities.
"The syndicate's modus operandi was aimed at foreigners who wanted to extend their stay in Malaysia by providing forged social visitor passes.
"They would use modified fake stamps to 'wash and erase' the expired stamps before placing new ones," Sinar Harian quoted Khairrul Aminus as saying.
According to the report, during the raid, officers seized seven Vietnamese passports, three entry and exit stamps, eight smartphones and RM2,150 in cash as well as a compact crossover SUV.
Khairrul Aminus noted that the syndicate would use food delivery services to receive and return passports that they had stamped, adding that each stamp would cost about RM400.
Three individuals, aged between 26 and 40 years old, were arrested under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Passport Act 1966.
"All the suspects are detained at the Semenyih Immigration Depot to assist in investigations.
"The Selangor Immigration Department will continue to improve its enforcement throughout the whole state and will not compromise on anyone who disobeys the law," he said.
