QuickCheck: Was there a tornado in Lumut?

Tropical storm Senyar has brought heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas to Peninsular Malaysia, with many places affected.

However, a viral video is showing a tornado supposedly hitting Lumut, Perak, recently.

Did this really happen?

VERDICT:

FALSE

According to the Perak Fire and Rescue Department, the video was actually captured in Indonesia.

"We believe this occurred in Indonesia, not Lumut," the department said when contacted on Friday (Nov 28).

The department added that the strong winds from Senyar were now headed towards Kuantan.
