IPOH: Police have seized some RM18,534 worth of drugs and detained three men, including a police constable, at the Lumut police station lock-up in Manjung.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the drugs were found during a check on Tuesday (Aug 11) at about 8.30am.
Comm Mohd Alwi said 16 small plastic tubes containing 109g of methamphetamine, 16 plastic tubes containing 110g of heroin and 23 tubes containing 142g of dried cannabis leaves were found.
"We detained two suspects, in their 40s, who are supposed to be charged for drugs-related offences.
"We also arrested the policeman, in his 30s, who is stationed at the location," he said during a press conference after a drugs and ketum disposal ceremony at the state police contingent headquarters here on Thursday (Aug 13).
Comm Mohd Alwi said the two drug suspects tested positive for drugs.
"All three will be remanded from Aug 12 to 18 to facilitate investigations under Section 39B and Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
"Police are serious when it comes to drug abuse and trafficking activities, especially when it involves a police premises," he said, adding that the police constable does not have any crime record.
"We are still investigating how the drugs were smuggled into the premises.
"We will investigate this case with transparency and actions will be taken based on facts," he said.
"Those with information about the matter are to channel it to the police," he added.
On the ceremony, Comm Mohd Alwi said about RM4mil worth of drugs from 5,000 completed court cases between 2000 and 2025 would be disposed of on Thursday.
He also said that as of Aug 10 this year, police have arrested 12,916 people for various drug-related offences.
He added that about RM46mil worth of drugs have been seized this year, which was a record high for the state.
"Some 4,529 investigation papers have been opened, with 96% or 4,327 papers having been charged," he added.
Earlier in May, it was reported that mobile phones, drugs, tobacco, money and communication equipment were found during an inspection on four detainees in a cell at the lock-up of the district police station here.
