SOCIAL media can be a platform for connection but can also be misused to deceive the public.
Concerns have arisen over TikTok videos claiming to represent Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tunku Azizah Maimunah Iskandariah.
Is it true scammers are using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to generate fake videos for fraudulent purposes?
VERDICT:
TRUE
Istana Pahang, in a statement on the official Kesultanan Pahang Facebook page, said that Her Royal Highness has never offered assistance on TikTok.
"Istana Pahang strongly denies allegations that Tunku Azizah has ever offered any form of assistance to the public via the TikTok platform," the post said on Monday (Sept 8).
It said that the clarification was issued following the emergence of a TikTok account using the name "Datuk Muhammad Yusuf", which has been actively deceiving the public by manipulating Her Royal Highness' image using AI technology.
Istana Pahang stressed that such actions constitute irresponsible fraudulent attempts that could tarnish the image of the royal institution.
"The public is therefore urged to remain vigilant, verify the authenticity of information carefully, and not be misled by false offers circulating on social media.
"Members of the public are also advised to immediately lodge reports with the authorities should they be contacted or receive any suspicious messages made in the name of Her Royal Highness Tengku Ampuan Pahang," the post added.
