Emergency drills can look alarming when sirens, smoke and flashing lights suddenly appear in public areas.
However, not every dramatic scene points to a real disaster.
It was reported that a major emergency simulation has been planned at a rest and service (R&R) area along a Shah Alam highway. Is this true?
Verdict:

TRUE
Malaysia Airports said a full scale aircraft disaster exercise will be carried out in Shah Alam later this week.
The exercise would be carried out at the Denai Alam R&R stop along the Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway (DASH).
It said in a statement on Monday (July 13) that the Malaysia Airports, Prolintas and the Information Department (Japen) wanted to make the public aware of the exercise dubbed "Latih Amal Ex Urban Falcon 2026" that will be at the R&R from 8am to 2pm on Thursday (July 16).
"This full scale exercise is part of the National Air Disaster Preparedness Programme 2026 themed ‘Integrasi Perkasa, Aspirasi Nusa’ organised by Malaysia Airports in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Agency, the Selangor State Secretary and Prolitas-DASH.
"The primary objective of conducting this air disaster full scale exercise is to evaluate and test the level of preparedness, coordination and response in dealing with any emergency situation.
"This programme serves to test the responses of various relevant safety and emergency agencies as well," it said.
It further said that DASH Highway users and members of the public are advised to cooperate throughout the programme to ensure it is carried out safely and smoothly.
"They may observe emergency vehicles, smoke, an aircraft replica, sirens or simulation activities in the vicinity of the Denai Alam R&R area, as these are part of the exercise.
"Members of the public are also requested to comply with the instructions of personnel on site to ensure the smooth conduct of the exercise," it said.
