QuickCheck: Did an arsonist set his own motorcycle on fire after setting two cars alight?


IN A bizarre turn of events, a man in Melaka attempted to set two cars on fire, only to face instant karma when his own motorcycle was engulfed in flames.

CCTV footage of the incident has spread rapidly on social media, sparking widespread discussion.

Could it be true that this arsonist's plan backfired so dramatically?

The incident occurred in Taman Bukit Katil Permai, Melaka, on Saturday (Aug 23), around 1.38pm.

The viral CCTV footage shows the suspect setting two cars ablaze before fleeing the scene.

In an ironic twist, the fire also caught his motorcycle, leaving it charred in the middle of the road near the site.

Melaka Tengah OCPD ACP Christopher Patit, reported that the police received a report from the homeowner, Mohamad Idris Mokhtar, who is also a police officer.

The initial investigation revealed that the two cars, a Perodua Bezza and a Perodua Axia, were completely destroyed, and the suspect's SYM motorcycle was found incinerated nearby.

"The burned motorcycle is believed to belong to the suspect and was left at the scene.

"Although no independent witnesses were present, several CCTV recordings from the victim's home are being reviewed," said Patit in a statement on Sunday (Aug 24).

The exact financial loss is yet to be determined, and the investigation is ongoing, including efforts to ascertain the motive and locate the suspect.

The case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire.

The public is urged to contact the nearest police station with any information that could assist the investigation.
