QuickCheck: Does Usain Bolt have children named Lightning and Thunder?

IT IS a wonder on its own that the fastest man on Earth has the surname, Bolt. The coincidence is simply uncanny.

Though there have been many who came close, Usain Bolt turned sprinting into a spectacle of speed and style, while beating his own records over and over, making him quite the household name.

After retiring in 2017, his family has since expanded. Rumour has it that he even named two of his children Thunder and Lightning, a nod to his own lightning-fast legacy.

It sure sounds like a scene straight out of a superhero comic book, but is it true?

Verdict:

TRUE

Usain Bolt became a father in May 2020, when he and his partner, Kasi Bennett, welcomed a baby girl. And they named her Olympia Lightning Bolt.

But wait, there’s more.

In 2021, the family welcomed twins. This time they named the newborns Thunder Bolt and Saint Leo Bolt.

While Thunder Bolt is a clear play on words, just like Olympia Lightning Bolt was, Saint Leo is the middle name of the Jamaican athlete.

The couple kept their second pregnancy under wraps, making Thunder and Saint's debuts a surprise.

Bolt announced the news on Father's Day 2021 with a photo of his family of five, featuring the children’s names in the caption.

The choice of the children’s names took social media by storm garnering many reactions and comments.

While Bolt admitted that fatherhood has its challenges, he still focuses on soaking in the joys of raising three young children.
