Reports have emerged that the wealthy Kuala Lumpur suburb became the scene of a dramatic shootout involving police.

Early on Wednesday (Aug 6), Bukit Tunku was indeed the scene of a shootout between police and a suspect believed to be the mastermind of a robbery and housebreaking gang.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) acting director Datuk Fadil Marsus revealed that the 36-year-old suspect had a long criminal history, with 44 prior offences including violent crime and drugs.
The suspect was also linked to multiple housebreaking and robbery cases across Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, and Perak last year, resulting in losses exceeding RM1mil.
He said a team from the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) and the Kuala Lumpur Contingent JSJ, who were conducting crime prevention duties under Ops Api KL 3/2025 in the Bukit Tunku area, spotted the suspect, who was in a luxury car, at about 4.10am on Wednesday.
"The suspect acted aggressively when police attempted to intercept the luxury car he was driving for inspection at about 4.10am.
"He opened fire at the police, forcing CID officers to return fire in self-defence," he told reporters at the scene, adding that the suspect was fatally shot in the incident.
DCP Fadil said further investigation revealed the suspect was using fake number plates on the vehicle.
"Checks with the Road Transport Department found no registration records, leading investigators to believe the car may have been smuggled into the country.
"We also seized a police vest, a revolver believed to have been used in the shooting, various house break-in tools, and drugs from the vehicle," he said.
He added that the gang had been active since last year, targeting private residences - particularly those with safes - and stealing gold bars and cash.
"The gang comprises more than a dozen individuals. All CID units in the Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, and Perak contingents have been mobilised to track down the remaining members," he said.
