QuickCheck: Was a couple arrested for stealing 26 fire hydrant nozzles?

When there is a will, there is a way. Where there are humans, there will be thieves.

What is puzzling is not the fact that some people choose to steal; it is what they decide to make off with.

It is claimed that a couple was recently booked for pilfering not cash or jewellery, but over 20 units of fire hydrant nozzles from an apartment block.

Did this happen as claimed?

VERDICT:

TRUE

Police confirmed that a couple was recently arrested on suspicion of stealing 26 units of fire hydrant nozzles from an apartment in Semenyih.

Kajang police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said the theft was detected by the apartment's security supervisor, who reported the matter to the authorities on June 30.

Investigations revealed that fire hydrant nozzles located on the fifth to 17th floors of the apartment had gone missing.

"A police team managed to arrest the suspects, aged 43 and 44, at 10.30pm on Thursday (July 24) after reviewing a now-viral CCTV video recording from a house located near the apartment block," he said in a statement on Friday (July 25).

According to initial investigations, the male suspect has seven prior records related to narcotics and one criminal record, while the woman has eight narcotics-related records and five criminal records, in addition to both suspects testing positive for methamphetamine.

Naazron said the suspects were remanded for three days from Friday to assist in the investigation under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.

Those with information on the case are urged to contact Investigating Officer Sergeant Karunagaran at 012-244 9414 or any nearby police station.
