CCTV footage of robberies, especially where weapons are used, are usually quick to go viral on social media.
In a twist, one such viral video making the rounds shows a group of parang-wielding would-be robbers suddenly turning tail after their supposed victims, who were in a car at a petrol station, fired shots at them.
Is it true that such an incident happened in Iskandar Puteri, near the Second Link?
VERDICT:
TRUE
Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan confirmed the incident and said that investigations were underway.
Dramatic footage of the incident, which occurred at around 12.10am on Thursday (July 3) morning, was captured in a two-minute CCTV clip.
In the footage, four masked men armed with parangs can be seen alighting from a car and rushing towards another car parked at a petrol station near the Second Link.
The four attempted to force the occupants out, but a passenger in the targeted car fired several shots in their direction, prompting panic in the assailants.
Three of the suspects immediately jumped back into their vehicle and sped off, while the fourth was seen fleeing on foot toward a nearby road.
