A screen capture of the video that went viral claiming that crocodiles were spotted sunbathing on a beach at Port Dickson.
A VIRAL video showing what appears to be several crocodiles basking in the sun, reportedly in Port Dickson, has raised concerns.
It had understandably alarmed many, as Port Dickson is a popular resort area that draws in large numbers of visitors seeking sun, sea and sand.
Is it true that visitors can expect crocs in Port Dickson?
Verdict:
FALSE
According to an investigation by MyCheck.my, the video, which went viral on TikTok, actually shows crocodiles at the Kuala Linggi sanctuary, not Port Dickson.
This area serves as a natural habitat for these reptiles, located far from public recreational or swimming spots.
The Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) in Negeri Sembilan confirmed that the crocodiles were filmed at Sungai Linggi, a natural habitat for them.
"The Sungai Linggi area is a natural habitat for these species, and there is no swimming activity there, only fishing," Perhilitan Negri Sembilan director Faizal Izham Pikri told MyCheck.
Perhilitan manages the Crocodile Sanctuary in Linggi, which was established to support breeding, conservation efforts, and tourism in the state.
While the sight of crocodiles might be unsettling, these animals are located far from popular beaches and pose no threat to beachgoers.
The public is encouraged to remain calm, as the sandy riverbanks of Sungai Linggi are a typical place for crocodiles to bask, not the beaches of Port Dickson.
