QuickCheck: Did a person reprimand two officers for a broken-down patrol car in a viral video?

BEING a policeman, like most public service-oriented occupations, can often be a thankless job. One moment you are risking your life chasing criminals, the next moment you are criticised for just doing your job.

Recently, a dashcam video went viral online, depicting a man berating police officers after their patrol car unexpectedly went dark and halted.

Did this really happen?

VERDICT:

TRUE

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat confirmed that a road user confronted and scolded two policemen who were on patrol along Jalan Austin Heights 7/4, in front of the Sports Hub, at around 4am on June 15.

"The police vehicle encountered technical problems with the wiring system connected to the front and rear signal lights, as well as the beacon light. This caused all the lights to malfunction, rendering the vehicle immobile.

"The policemen had pulled over at a suitable location while waiting for assistance," he said in a statement on Wednesday (June 18).

ACP Raub said that despite the officers’ efforts to explain the situation, the man continued to act aggressively before eventually leaving the area.

"We are treating the video of the incident seriously, as it could lead to negative public perception of the officers involved.

"The actual circumstances have since been clarified and measures have been taken to ensure similar incidents do not happen again,” ACP Raub said.
