QuickCheck: Is a hike in electricity tariffs scheduled soon?

Bills, bills, bills. There's always another bill to pay.

There is a viral message floating on WhatsApp that there will be a tariff increase for electricity soon. Is this true?

VERDICT:

FALSE

According to Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), the viral message is fake.

"TNB wishes to clarify that a tariff schedule currently circulating on WhatsApp is fake and not issued by TNB.

"The false schedule misleadingly suggests a tariff increase and unlawfully features the TNB logo. This misinformation is creating unnecessary confusion among customers.

"As of today, no official announcement has been made," the company said on Facebook.

It added that the public should avoid sharing unverified information and refer only to official government and TNB platforms for updates on electricity tariffs.
