WHEN the peace is disrupted, tempers can get frayed and people can take things into their own hands.

Recently, a video of a street fight went viral along with a claim that the incident happened in Kuching and was triggered due to loud engine and exhaust noises.

Is this true?

VERDICT:

TRUE

Yes, this is true; Kuching OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Farhan Lee Bin Abdullah confirmed in a press release that five local men were arrested on Wednesday (March 19) in connection with the fight seen in the 53-second video.

He said that the men are aged between 18 and 35, and added that the video was recorded in front of a shop in the Rubber Road area of Satok, Kuching.

“The incident arose from the act of revving a vehicle’s engine loudly and was not related to any racial or ethnic issues,” said ACP Mohd Farhan.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of up to five years, a fine or both upon sentencing.

“Anyone with information about the incident can contact the Kuching IPD Control Centre at 082-24444 or Investigating Officer Insp. Ridzainuddin Bin Rosley Abdullah at 010-943-1449,” said ACP Mohd Farhan.

He added that the public is also advised not to circulate the video as it may cause unrest and disrupt the peace.
