QuickCheck: Are Malaysians set to pay more tax under LHDN's new system?

AS the adage goes, the only thing certain in life is death and taxes. Yup, It's that time of the year again to file your income tax.

A recent post on TikTok, however, claimed that the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) is introducing a new monthly tax deduction system which will result in higher taxes. Is this true?

VERDICT:

FALSE

According to MyCheck Malaysia, the post made a false claim that the new e-PCB Plus system – introduced by LHDN in Sept 24, 2024, and fully implemented in Feb 3 this year – will actually result in higher monthly deductions.

"The new e-PCB Plus system is merely to merge the e-PCB, e-Data PCB and e-CP39 into a single platform.

"Claims that there will be a higher monthly deduction for income tax is not true," LHDN was quoted saying by MyCheck.
