QuickCheck: Is there a giant QR code made up of trees in a Chinese village?

Tourism is a major aspect of a nation’s economy. The use of technology has made travelling a seamless experience, putting information at our fingertips.

With the burgeoning tourism landscape, many destinations have employed QR codes as a convenient payment method.

But is there really a QR code made up of trees in a village in China?

VERDICT:

TRUE

The Xilinshui Village in the city of Baoding in Hebei Province has taken technology to new heights. Anyone flying through the quaint village will be mesmerised by the enormous green QR code, spanning over 220m along each side!

Comprising more than 130,000 meticulously pruned trees planted by the villagers in 2017, the giant tech code has only one purpose: To entice visitors.

The code is scannable, and when scanned, it will reveal information about the village designed to attract tourists to Xilinshui, which was recognised as “the most beautiful village in Hebei” in 2015.
