VERDICT:

TRUE

According to George Town OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad, the man who was allegedly drunk was found unconscious by the public in a car.

They then alerted the police at about 10.30pm on Friday (Nov 29). Upon arrival, the police had managed to wake the 49-year-old man.

“However, when the police arrived at the scene to inspect the man, he refused to cooperate and hurled profanities at the on-duty police personnel," he said in a statement on Saturday (Nov 30).

ACP Abdul Rozak said the case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code / Minor Offenses Act 1955 for obstructing a public servant from discharging his duties.

He said the investigation would be completed soon and forwarded the case to the Deputy Public Prosecutor with a recommendation for charges.

He said in the meantime, the public is advised not to speculate about the case, as this could disrupt the ongoing police investigation.

Several video clips of the incident have been shared on social media, showing the man unconscious in the car.

However, after being roused by authorities, the suspect began to verbally abuse them.
