PETALING JAYA: A message has gone viral on WhatsApp and Telegram, which states that all new staff members under the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) will no longer be under any pension plan.

The message added that a new pension scheme for civil servants will be introduced starting Jan 1, 2025. Is this viral message true?

FALSE

According to the Public Service Department (JPA), the viral message entitled 'Skim Pencen Baru' (New Pension Scheme) is fake.

"The JPA has not issued any official statement as stated and such act can cause public anxiety and confusion," the department said on the fact-checker website sebenarnya.com.my.

The department noted that sharing such fake content was an offence under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carried a fine up to RM50,000, a jail term of up to a year, or both upon conviction.

The JPA also advised the public not to share uncertain information and to follow the department's official social media channels for the latest updates.
