QuickCheck: Was a man riding a street luge board on a busy Penang road?


IT is common to see many different types of vehicles on busy roads, but more often than not a street luge board is not one of them.

As such, any sighting of a person riding a street luge board down a main road anywhere could find themselves the subject of a viral video.

Recently, such a video went viral along with the claim that this happened in Penang. Is this true?

Police are looking for an individual seen riding a street luge board in a viral video along Jalan Tun Sardon here.

Balik Pulau OCPD Supt Kamarul Rizal Jenal said the 47-second video was detected on Sept 6 at about 9.40pm and uploaded to social media.

"The video shows an individual riding a street luge board on the road. This can endanger their safety and that of other road users," he said in a statement on Saturday (Sept 7).

Supt Kamarul said the case is being investigated under Section 3 (1) of the Traffic Control Rules (Prohibition on the Use of Micromobility Vehicles) Act 2021.

He said the police take the issue seriously as the actions of this individual endanger both themselves and other road users.

"Anyone with information regarding this case is requested to provide information by calling the Balai Pulau police headquarters operations room at 04-8664122 or directly contacting the investigating officer, Insp. Noor Amera Mohd Nawi, at 013-3312026," he added.
