AN attempt to check on the well-being of a motorist took a sharp turn and turned into an ugly episode of vandalism and rioting in Sibu recently.
A video of several men damaging a car at a traffic light junction has gone viral but did such an incident really occur?
Verdict:

TRUE
Sibu police chief Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said four men were detained on suspicion of being involved in a riot and vandalising a car in Rantau Panjang here.
He said the suspects, aged from 26 to 36, were arrested on Lorong Salim 5B3 at about 9.30pm on Tuesday (Nov 3).
He said initial investigations revealed that the incident began when the suspects came across a car parked by the roadside as they were travelling to Rantau Panjang.
"The suspects approached the car to check on the individuals inside but the driver reversed their vehicle, ramming into the suspects' car before speeding off," he said in a statement.
"All four suspects then chased the vehicle up to a traffic light intersection before proceeding to vandalise it," he said.
ACP Abang Zainal said one of the suspects admitted to throwing a stone at the driver's side mirror, while another smashed the car's windscreen.
All four suspects have past criminal records and were taken to the Sibu police station for further investigation under Sections 427 and 148 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and rioting with weapons.
