QuickCheck: Was a 10-year-old boy caught driving in Seremban?

THE only time it’s legal for a child to go behind the wheel of a vehicle is at the amusement arcade.

However, sometimes mischief gets the better of one’s curiosity and playtime turns into playing chauffeur.

Recently, it was reported that an underage boy was seen driving a passenger around a housing area in Seremban. Did such an incident really happen?

Verdict:

TRUE

Seremban police chief Asst Comm Mohamad Hatta Che Din confirmed the incident happened around 9.30pm on Tuesday (Sept 3).

He said it resulted in an accident involving two other vehicles on Jalan Arowana 2, Taman Arowana Impian, reported Bernama.

ACP Mohamad Hatta said a 10-year-old boy was found driving his parent’s car with a nine-year-old neighbour as a passenger.

"Initial investigations revealed that they were travelling from the Arowana Impian apartments towards Taman Arowana Impian.

"The car driven by the boy skidded while he was navigating a curve and collided with a van parked by the roadside.

"As a result of the collision, the van struck another car parked in front of it," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 4) evening, adding that both boys were unharmed.

The case is being investigated under Sections 39(1) and 111 of the Road Transport Act 1987, Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959, and Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001.
