Nothing conjures righteous fury quite like the sight of an animal being abused. So when a video showing a man abusing a cat appeared on social media, it instantly went viral.

It has been claimed that the abuse seen in the video happened in Johor.

Is this true?

Verdict:

TRUE

This was confirmed by North Johor Baru OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh, who said in a statement on Wednesday (July 17) that the police first detected the video on Monday (July 15).

He said that a police report on the incident was lodged back in December 2023 and added that the case has been referred to the Johor Veterinary Services Department.

"They have investigated the matter under Section 29(1)(e) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015," added ACP Balveer Singh.

He then said that those found guilty of an offence under this Section of the Act can be punished with a fine of RM20,000 to RM100,000, a maximum three-year jail term or both upon sentencing.
