QuickCheck: Does the AKPK employ agents to assist the public with loan restructuring?

IN this day and age, it seems like more and more scammers are choosing to pose either as employees of government agencies or as their agents in a bid to find new victims.

Recently, a claim went viral online that scammers are posing as Agensi Kaunseling dan Pengurusan Kredit (AKPK) agents who will help the public with their loan restructuring for a fee of 10% of the entire loan.

Is this true?

VERDICT:

FALSE

This is in fact false, and the AKPK has come out with a post on its official Facebook page warning people to be aware of those posing as its agents.

"The AKPK has no agents and does not impose a charge (for loan restructuring)," it said in the post.

It added that the agency has never appointed any agents or third parties to perform its services.
