QuickCheck: Did Malaysians help to build the largest-ever model of the iconic Millenium Falcon from Star Wars?

As recognisable as the lightsaber, the Millenium Falcon, with its unmistakable silhouette and ability to do the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs, is an archetypal spaceship in Star Wars.

It first appeared in the 1977 movie "Star Wars: A New Hope" and is said to be a modified YT-1300F light freighter. The Millennium Falcon in the movies measures 34.75m long and 7.8m tall.

But, is it true that Malaysia was once the home to one of the world's largest Millennium Falcon models and was built with the help of thousands of kids and grownups from all over the country?

Verdict:

TRUE

Although Han Solo mistakenly used parsec to measure distance instead of time, there is no mistake that Malaysia was once home to the world's largest Millennium Falcon model.

In 2016, Lego master builders Chris and Dan Steininger, with the help of visitors to Legoland Malaysia Resort, built a 5m-long replica of the spaceship using 200,000 bricks. It weighed 500kg and took 30 hours to make.

The model was built as a centrepiece for Star Wars Day (May 4) at the theme park that year.

Today, the annual celebration at the park, the model, and the Star Wars Miniland are no more. However, you can still find Star Wars characters built with Lego bricks around the park.
