QuickCheck: Did a Penang man run amok over a 'grass-cutting' fee?

A 30-SECOND video clip making the rounds on social media shows a man running amok with a parang and damaging a motorcycle and a house.

It was claimed that the incident was sparked by a misunderstanding over a "grass-cutting" fee that had not been paid to the man.

Is it true that the incident happened in Permatang Kerai Kecil, Kepala Batas, as claimed in the video?

VERDICT:

TRUE

North Seberang Perai OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Asri Shafie confirmed the incident, saying it occured on April 18 when the suspect visited the complainant's house with a parang to request payment for cutting the grass.

"However, the complainant did not know anything about this and the suspect then ran amok, damaging a motorcycle and the complainant's house," he said in a statement.

ACP Asri said the suspect fled the scene but police managed to trace and arrest him on April 20.

"The suspect tested positive for methamphetamine," he added.

The suspect was charged on April 26 with criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the Penal Code and mischief causing loss or damage worth more than RM25 under Section 427 of the Penal Code.

"The public is advised not to share the video of the incident or to make any speculation that can disturb the peace," ACP Asri said.
