SCAMMERS have started calling potential victims and pretending to be officials from the "MCMC Tribunal". Is this true?

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) released a statement on its webpage on Thursday (Feb 2) that it did not have any tribunal operating as the "MCMC Tribunal".
It advised the public to be wary of calls by unknown individuals claiming to be officials from the so-called tribunal.
It said announcements about matters related to MCMC were usually made through official channels such as its website or social media platforms and never through private mobile phone numbers.
"MCMC urges the public not to be deceived by such calls from unknown parties," it added.
It also advised anyone receiving such calls to report the matter to the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) at 997 or to authorities such as the police.
