QuickCheck: Have heavy rains caused a water surge phenomenon in Kelantan?

VIDEOS have gone viral on social media claiming to show a water surge phenomenon or "kepala air" at Lata Berangin near Kuala Krai, Kelantan. Do the videos really show a surge as claimed?

VERDICT:

FALSE

Speaking to the media, Kuala Krai OCPD DSP Suzaimi Mohamed said the videos actually show a common occurrence at the Lata Berangin waterfall following heavy rain.

"When it receives a high volume of rain, more water will flow over compared to the usual flow," he said.

DSP Suzaimi said this was not a "kepala air" or water surge phenomenon and added that people should not be worried or alarmed by this.
