PHNOM PENH: The Cambodian Ministry of Health (MoH) said on Friday (May 22) that one more person tested positive for Covid-19 (coronavirus), bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the kingdom to 123.

It said the man, a 26-year-old from Kampong Trach commune in Kampot province’s Kampong Trach district, had recently returned from the Philippines through a connecting flight in South Korea.

The new patient returned to the country Wednesday night.

"The result of lab test conducted by the Pasteur Institute of Cambodia available at 6pm (local time) on May 21, 2020 showed that the 26-year-old man was positive for Covid-19," it said.

The patient has been sent to the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital for treatment.

According to the statement, other 62 passengers, who took the same flight with the patient, have been put under quarantine for 14 days at a hotel in the capital of Phnom Penh for health monitoring.

They include 23 South Koreans, 33 Cambodians, three Japanese, one Belgian, one Chinese and one Dutch citizen, it said.

It was the first new case after the South-East Asian country had detected no new cases for more than a month, and all the first 122 patients had recovered. - Phnom Penh Post/Asian News Network
