Two held for trafficking drugs from Laos to Vietnam

HANOI (Xinhua): Police of Vietnam's northern Son La province have arrested two local men for transporting two cakes of heroin and 1,000 pills of amphetamine from Laos to the country.

The duo, aged 33 and 38, both from Son La province, were caught red-handed transporting the drug in Song Ma District, daily Phap Luat (Law) newspaper reported on Tuesday (May 19.

The drug smugglers confessed that they bought the drug in Laos and were attempting to distribute in Vietnam. Further investigation is underway.

On Monday, the provincial police also arrested another drug trafficker who was aged 33 years old, seizing over 19,000 pills of lab-made drug, Vietnam News Agency reported.

According to the Vietnamese law, those convicted of smuggling over 600gm of heroin or more than 2.5kg of methamphetamine are punishable by death. Those making or trading in 100gm of heroin or 300gm of other illegal drugs also face the death penalty. - Xinhua
