BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei reported no new cases of Covid-19 (coronavirus) pandemic on Monday morning (May 11), with the national tally of cases standing at 141.
According to Brunei's Ministry of Health, two new recoveries were recorded on Sunday, bringing the total number of recovered cases to 134. The number of active cases still being treated at the National Isolation Centre is six.
Two patients remain in critical condition. One of them requires Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) and respiratory assistance and one case only requires respiratory assistance.
The rest are in a stable condition. There are three relapse cases in the past three days, which brings the total number of such cases to 27 individuals.
There has been one death resulting from the Covid-19 in Brunei.
Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham Haji Jaafar revealed the details at the daily press conference at the ministry’s Al-‘Afiah Hall on Monday.
The minister said, “It's great news that there is no new Covid-19 case in the country. Therefore, the total number of cases in Brunei Darussalam remains at 141.”
He added, “Two cases recovered from COVID-19 today, and the total number of recovered cases is 134.
"This brings the number of active cases being treated at the National Isolation Centre to six where two are in critical condition. However, only one still requires the heart-lung machine (ECMO) and respiratory assistance. One case requires only respiratory assistance. The rest are in a stable condition.”
He said the ministry will no longer share statistics of relapsed cases and will only be used those for internal reference for the ministry.
The minister said, “This is in light of available studies that have found that such cases have a high probability to not be able to infect others and no changes are made towards their treatment. However, such cases will continue to be monitored by the Ministry of Health.”
So far 110 individuals are still undergoing quarantine and some 15,898 laboratory tests for Covid-19 have been conducted. - Borneo Bulletin/Asian News Network
