VIENTIANE: Laos officials met in the capital Vientiane on Tuesday (April 14) to review the measures in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19 (coronavirus) outbreak in Laos.
The meeting reviewed the measures in place to prevent further infections and considered whether to stop or continue some of these, Laos News Agency (KPL) reported on Monday.
The measures were spelled out in Prime Minister's Order announced on March 29, which covers the period from April 1 to 19 and calls for everyone to remain at home during this time.
Deputy Prime Minister Somdy Douangdy urged all the parties to make every effort to prevent and control the spread of the virus.
The meeting discussed the government's emergency response to prevention and control of the virus, noting that when a case is identified, restrictions should be immediately placed on people and places where the virus may be transmitted.
Laos Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Kikeo Chanthaboury said people should be encouraged to resume work and production so that citizens had a source of income.
While noting the success of virus prevention and control measures, he said many people now had no source of income after the government ordered the closure of industries.
As of Tuesday morning, Laos had tested 1,186 suspected cases with 19 cases tested positive. - Xinhua/Asian News Network
