Japan’s Atami City to promote Brunei as tourism destination

BRUNEI DARUSSALAM (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): The growing ties between Brunei Darussalam and Atami City can help promote the sultanate to the international market, thanks to the three million tourists Atami City receives each year, said Mayor Sakae Saito of Atami City in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan.

He made this statement during a courtesy call on Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Awang Ali Apong on Monday (Feb 3).

He said, by working with Brunei as the internationally recognised halal certification provider, the city aims to utilise Brunei halal certification for food retailers so that Atami City can attract more Muslim visitors.

Saito said, “With this opportunity, we hope to increase travellers between Atami and Brunei through sporting and cultural exchanges.

“Atami City has a population of 36,000. It’s a small local city but with plenty of resources for tourism such as hot springs and places of interest.”

“The city is also filled with cherry blossoms and plum flowers. There is also a firework festival and it offers easy access to Mount Fuji and plenty of accommodation, ” he added.
