SINGAPORE: A Singapore opposition politician has been cleared of allegations that he molested his Indonesian maid, police said yesterday following an investigation triggered by his own wife's complaint.
No action will be taken against member of parliament Steve Chia, the former secretary-general of the National Solidarity Party, a police statement said.
“After careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the case, and in consultation with the Attorney-General's chambers, the police have decided to take no further action on the ground that no offence of outraging modesty is disclosed,” the police said.
He was, however, given a warning for possessing an obscene film.
Chia, 34, was embroiled in the scandal after local media published details of a police investigation instigated by Chia's pregnant wife, who lodged a report after finding topless photos of their maid on their home computer.
He said the photos were taken with the maid's consent and admitted he had developed a hobby of taking nude pictures of himself after getting a digital camera two years ago. – AFP
