PETALING JAYA: The determination shown by Barisan Nasional's Bandar Hilir candidate Jasmine Lok Huey Yee and her team in securing an election operations centre within an hour has spurred MCA as it gears up for the Melaka polls.
"That is what commitment looks like. That is the spirit of a determined candidate who leads by example and gets things done," MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said in a Facebook post on Thursday (Oct 29).
Dr Wee said Lok received her appointment letter and completed the required paperwork at Parliament at 4pm on Wednesday (Oct 28).
She left at about 6pm but arrived in Melaka only after 9pm after being caught in heavy rain on the way.
Instead of calling it a day, Lok secured a shoplot in Melaka Raya for use as an operations centre within an hour of arriving, he said.
After receiving the keys, she and several aides immediately began cleaning the premises and moving in Barisan flags and campaign materials.
They also met an advertising company representative to arrange for the signboard to be put up within 24 hours.
The team worked until about 2am, Dr Wee said.
He said Lok remained at the premises to oversee the work despite the long journey from Kuala Lumpur.
Lok is Barisan's candidate for Bandar Hilir in the Melaka state election.
Nomination day is on Saturday (Oct 31), followed by early voting on Nov 10 and polling on Nov 14.
