PETALING JAYA: Medical practitioners who have completed supervised work experience (SWE) are exempted from primary source verification (PSV) when applying for specialist registration, says the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC).
The council said this is subject to confirmation from the Health director-general (DG) and is intended to facilitate the specialist registration process for eligible medical practitioners.
“The Council, at its 470th meeting on Sept 22, 2026, noted the need to facilitate the specialist registration process for medical practitioners who have completed the SWE requirements and received confirmation from the director-general of Health,” it said.
PSV is a procedure to verify the authenticity of a qualification with the awarding institution through a third party.
The MMC said the exemption applies to medical practitioners who hold specialist qualifications from an overseas institution, have undergone specialist training approved by the council in Malaysia and completed the SWE requirements, as confirmed by the Health DG.
Those who fulfil these requirements will not need to undergo PSV to verify their specialist qualification certificates when applying for registration with the MMC’s Specialist Register.
However, the council reminded medical practitioners to ensure that all documents and information required for registration are submitted in full, accurately and truthfully.
Separately, the MMC reminded medical practitioners to submit their applications to renew their Annual Practising Certificate (APC) for 2027 before Dec 1, 2026, to avoid a late fee of RM100.
“However, all renewal applications must be submitted before Dec 31, 2026, to allow sufficient time for processing before the 2027 practising year begins and ensure that medical practitioners hold a valid APC to practise medicine during that year,” it said in a statement.
