NIBONG TEBAL: Pakatan Harapan will contest the Melaka polls as a united coalition despite differences over a possible electoral pact with Bersatu, says its wanita chief Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek.
The coalition is contesting 21 seats, with the remaining seven reportedly being considered for Bersatu under a potential electoral pact.
“We will go as one Pakatan Harapan team,” she said.
While no official announcement has been made, talk is that Pakatan and Bersatu are considering an alliance going into the Melaka polls.
A recent dinner, which saw the attendance of leaders from both sides, had further fuelled speculation of a pact.
Fadhlina added that PKR’s decision to field 30% women candidates is a positive step towards increasing women’s representation in politics.
She said the candidates would reflect the party’s commitment to strengthening women’s roles in public leadership.
Three of PKR’s nine candidates are women.
In Melaka, the state acting chairman Adam Adli Abd Halim also said the party has met the target of having at least 30% women among its candidates.
This was a commitment shared with civil society groups promoting women’s leadership in recent months, he said.
“I don’t call it a quota. I see it as one of the principles we hold as a party.”
Adam Adli also said PKR, which failed to win a single seat in the last state election, is going in as the underdog with a largely new line-up.
