PETALING JAYA: A man with 13 prior criminal offences on his record has been arrested on suspicion of being involved in motorcycle thefts.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Bakri Abdul Salam said the 26-year-old suspect was arrested by the roadside along Jalan Sungai Jelok in Kajang, Selangor, at about noon on Oct 16.
"The arrest followed a report lodged over the theft of accessories from a motorcycle at Residensi Kepong, Pintasan Metro Perdana, Taman Metropolitan Kepong, on July 26.
“We also seized eight incomplete motorcycle frames involving several models, as well as two complete sets of body panels,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Oct 21).
He added that inspections found the chassis numbers on the motorcycle frames had been removed or tampered with.
The seized items are believed to be linked to 10 police reports involving motorcycle thefts within the Sentul district, with estimated losses amounting to RM35,000.
The seizures were made at three separate locations: the Tasik Intan Baiduri area, beside the Intan Baiduri Community Hall and a bushy area along Jalan 6/42A in Taman Kok Doh, Jinjang.
ACP Anuar said preliminary investigations found that the suspect allegedly carried out the thefts with several accomplices before dismantling the motorcycles and selling their components.
“The stolen motorcycles were then allegedly discarded to destroy evidence of their activities,” he said.
He said further investigations were underway to determine whether the suspect and his accomplices were involved in other cases and to trace the stolen motorcycle components that had been sold.
The suspect remains in remand. The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code.
