Family horrified after actress plans to stay in nursing home

Actress Maria Cordero claimed that her family stopped her from living in a nursing home, reported Sin Chew Daily.

The 72-year-old widow, based in Hong Kong, revealed during a TV programme recently that she did not want to be a burden to her children and grandchildren.

As such, she began looking for a home for the elderly.

To her surprise, Cordero received an earful from her children who told her sternly that she was not allowed to go.

“At my age, if I don’t look for a care home, am I supposed to look for a handsome man?” she said.

Remaining under the care of her children, Cordero jokingly threatened them that she will tell the whole world if they fail to take good care of her.

“You’ll be in big trouble then!” she said in jest.

Cordero added that growing old made her ponder the uncertainties in life.

“When you grow old, you naturally think about these things. You don’t know what old age will bring. I can still walk now, but a few years down the road, I may not be as healthy,” she said.

Cordero, who is fondly known as Fat Mama, is largely retired from the entertainment scene but has her own online cooking show called Maria’s Kitchen.

> A woman from China who flew to Malaysia after being offered a job ended up falling for a scam and losing 100,000 yuan (RM61,056), reported China Press.

Xiao Zhao, 30, responded to a job ad on social media and e-commerce platform Xiaohongshu for a role in a Taiwanese-owned company in Malaysia.

She arrived in Kuala Lumpur in September and travelled to Johor Baru to meet her recruiters.

Xiao Zhao was given a drink and shortly after, she began to feel disoriented.

She ended up being abandoned at an industrial area in the city.

When she woke up, Xiao Zhao noticed that her phone had been hacked and she had incurred unknown charges on her WeChat account and her credit cards, causing her to lose 100,000 yuan.

She also noticed that her phone was used to contact her family and friends for loans.

Xiao Zhao told her story during a press conference at the office of Mengkibol assemblywoman Chu Poh Yee.
