SEPANG: King Abdullah II of Jordan arrived in Malaysia today for a two-day state visit at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
The special aircraft carrying King Abdullah II and his delegation landed at the Bunga Raya Complex of Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 11.13pm, where he was welcomed by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan.
Following the welcoming ceremony, King Abdullah II inspected a guard of honour comprising 28 officers and personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment.
This marks King Abdullah II’s second state visit to Malaysia since May 2008.
Wisma Putra, in an earlier statement said the state visit coincides with the commemoration of more than six decades of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Jordan, established in 1965.
During the visit, King Abdullah II will be accorded a state welcoming ceremony at Istana Negara, followed by an audience with Sultan Ibrahim.
He is also scheduled to attend a state banquet and meet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Malaysia and Jordan share close and longstanding ties, particularly in education.
As of 2026, 1,636 Malaysian students are pursuing their studies at higher education institutions in Jordan, while more than 1,490 Jordanian students are studying at Malaysian higher education institutions.
Bilateral trade between Malaysia and Jordan reached RM993.4mil in 2025, an increase of 15.2 per cent from 2024.
Trade grew by a further 8.0 per cent to RM740.7mil from January to August 2026, compared with the corresponding period in 2025.- Bernama
