Two arrested with weapons in truck after police chase

KUALA LUMPUR: Two men were arrested after a police chase from Bukit Antarabangsa to Setiawangsa on Sunday (Oct 11).

The suspects were apprehended in their pick-up truck near a petrol station at the junction of Jalan Jelatek and Jalan Taman Setiawangsa at about 11am.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Khairul Anuar Khalid said the chase began at Jalan Wangsa 5 in Bukit Antarabangsa and continued towards the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) in Hulu Kelang.

He said personnel from the Hulu Kelang police station's mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) unit were involved in the pursuit.

“A search of the orange pickup truck uncovered several dangerous weapons, including a machete and a sickle, as well as tools believed to be used for cable theft, including a manhole-opening tool.

“Police also seized substances suspected to be drugs from both suspects,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

ACP Khairul Anuar said the case was being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his duties and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.

Investigations are also being conducted under Section 29(1) of the Minor Offences Act 1955 and Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
