PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has set up a special team to review allegations of a RM350,000 bribe involving one of its senior officers, which it previously investigated in 2018.
MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman ordered the team to be formed following renewed calls for action after the allegations resurfaced.
The MACC said the investigation was closed at the time as no offence could be established.
"However, following renewed calls for action and the resurfacing of the issue, the MACC chief commissioner has ordered the immediate establishment of a special team to review and re-examine the matter.
"This step is being taken to safeguard the integrity of the MACC and ensure public confidence in the institution is not undermined," it said in a statement on Saturday (Oct 10).
The MACC stressed that it would not compromise on issues that could undermine the commission's credibility.
"All parties are urged to refrain from speculation and from circulating unverified information."
