Fishmonger fined RM5,000 for peeping at neighbour's wife

KUALA KRAI: A Magistrate's Court here on Tuesday (Oct 6) fined a fishmonger RM5,000 after he pleaded guilty to peeping at his neighbour's wife last month.

Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid also ordered Tuan Ahmad Farid Tuan Mat, 36, to serve nine months in prison if he fails to pay the fine.

The man was charged with peeping at the 26-year-old victim while she was taking a bath at a house in Jalan Halimah Guchil here at about 11.30am on Sept 28, with the intention or knowledge that it would cause fear, anxiety or distress to the victim regarding her safety.

The charge was framed under Section 507A(1) of the Penal Code, punishable under the same section, which carries a maximum prison term of three years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Mazlinda Mohd Nor urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence in the public interest and to serve as a lesson to prevent the accused from repeating the offence.

However, counsel Farazalila Fauzi from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK), representing Tuan Ahmad Farid, pleaded for a minimum fine on the grounds that her client is single, earns about RM50 daily as a fishmonger, and supports his 66-year-old mother who has cancer. - Bernama
