JOHOR BARU: An operation is ongoing to contain the fire which broke out at the basement car park of a shopping mall on Jalan Wong Ah Fook near here.

The Larkin Fire and Rescue Station chief Mohd Suhaimi Abdul Jamal said they received an emergency call in regard to the incident at 3.40pm on Tuesday (Oct 6).

“Twenty-six firemen from the Larkin and Tebrau Fire and Rescue Stations were deployed to the JB City Square mall, four-kilometre away,’’ he said in a statement.

Mohd Suhaimi said one of the cars parked at the basement level was on fire, churning black smoke from the building which was visible from downtown Johor Baru.

He said three victims experienced breathing difficulties, and the Fire and Rescue Operations Team provided initial treatment to all victims.

“Those suffering from shortness of breath were a 35-year-old and 48-year-old Singaporean woman respectively,’’ said Mohd Suhaimi, adding that the 48-year-old victim was sent to hospital.
