Foreign couple accused of planting chest hair in food to avoid bill

GEORGE TOWN: A foreign man allegedly pulled out his chest hair before putting it into his food and accusing a restaurant of serving hair in his char koay teow to refuse paying the bill.

The incident was believed to have occured at a restaurant along Persiaran Gurney at about 5pm on Sunday (Oct 4).

According to Sin Chew Daily, the restaurant manager, identified only as Cheng, said the couple had initially wanted to order fried chicken but settled for char koay teow, an egg and a drink after being told the chicken was sold out.

He said the man later complained about finding hair in his char koay teow.

"After examining it, I found that something was amiss.

"If the hair had really been in the char koay teow, it should have been oily, but the hair we found was dry.

"There were six to seven strands of hair in the dish. They were also very short and did not look like eyelashes," he said.

Cheng said the couple then got up to leave while he and his staff were examining the food.

When reminded that they had yet to pay, the man allegedly refused, saying he would not pay for food that was contaminated.

Cheng said he later checked the restaurant's CCTV footage and allegedly saw the man repeatedly putting his hand inside his clothes and pulling out what appeared to be chest hair before placing it in the food.

He said the meal cost about RM30.

Cheng said the CCTV footage has since been shared with other restaurant operators to alert them about the couple.
