ROS merely doing its job, says Zahid

TANJUNG MALIM: The Registrar of Societies (ROS) did not suspend Perikatan Nasional arbitrarily but acted on a complaint lodged by one of its component parties, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Deputy Prime Minister said there had been several shortcomings within Perikatan that led to the suspension.

“Certainly, the ROS exercises its discretion based on the constitutions of any body or organisation registered with it,” he said after the Central Zone Polytechnic and Community College Convocation Ceremony held at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris yesterday.

On cooperation with other political parties in Melaka, Ahmad Zahid said Barisan Nasional would hold talks with any coalition or party interested in establishing an understanding.

He said he had given state Barisan chief Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, together with officials, the mandate to conduct them.

“I and my colleagues in the Barisan supreme council and Umno leadership will finalise the matter after the discussions and negotiations have been conducted by Melaka Barisan,” he said.
