‘PH to lock in Melaka lineup weeks before nomination’

ALOR GAJAH: Pakatan Harapan is expected to announce its candidates for the Melaka state election one to two weeks before nomination day, says the Prime Minister’s political secretary, Datuk Azman Abidin.

He said the move would allow the coalition to make early preparations rather than wait until the last minute.

“This time, we are better prepared to name our candidates,” he told reporters after visiting beneficiaries of the Ziarah Kasih programme in the Kuala Linggi state constituency here yesterday, Bernama reported.

Azman said candidate selection would be left to the party leadership, which would consider lists submitted by party divisions, state leaders and grassroots members before making a final decision.

The programme provides cash assistance from the Prime Minister’s Department, as well as follow-up aid such as wheelchairs and other support for eligible recipients where needed.

Azman said Ziarah Kasih was among the initiatives carried out by the Political Secretary’s Office and would continue in several other parts of Melaka, including the Jasin constituency next week.
